My CookBook - Vegetable Pickle

Wondering whether am I good in cooking? Cos.... every time I blogged on where to eat right? Well, I do loves to cook. Not a real cook who know how to cook special & nicely designed dishes but cooking something very normal.

I do keep / buy some recipe book. The sources are all from magazine, internet, newspaper, etc. Hmm... must be guessing that my room have stack of magazine / book? Yes, there are a lot despite of the recipe book. Well, I am not someone who really follows what they stated in the recipe book & LOVES TO AMEND THE RECIPE. Well, I can't exactly follow what they have written in the recipe book just because I don't have / want to buy some of the ingredient. Another thing is sometimes the recipe does not show the whole steps to make the dishes..Hahah... I believe some of you are same like me.

Here I will still state the original & steps of the recipe. Then, to show what exactly I did to amend the original recipe. Well, you can amend by yourself also.

Vegetable Pickle

Recipe (Original):
1. 1/2 cup vinegar
2. 1/2 cup fine sugar
3. 1 1/2 teaspoon salt
4. 1 large cucumber (peeled)
5. 2 carrots (sliced thin)
6. 1 large onion (sliced thin)
7. 2 red chillies (sliced thin)

Steps:
1. Combine vinegar, sugar & 1 teaspoon of salt in a bowl. Stir until the sugar dissolved.
2. Thinly slice cucumber and discard seeds. Sprinkle 1/2 teaspoon of salt.
3. Place in a muslin cloth and squeeze out excess water.
4. Mix dressing with vegetables until well combined.

Eva's cookbook - Vegetable Pickles (my cookbook)

Ingredients:
1. 1/2 cup vinegar
2. 1/2 cup fine sugar
3. 1 1/2 teaspoon salt
4. 2 large cucumbers (peeled, discard seeds & sliced thin)
5. 3 carrots (peeled & sliced thin) - I used medium sized carrot.
6. 3 large onions (peeled & sliced thin)

1. Peeled & discard seeds.

2. You will need to cut thinly the onions using knife.

3. Sliced thin the cucumber & carrots using the vegetable / fruit peeler. I know there is another type of peeler but I would recommend this one. You will know why where you will see later in the next picture.

4. Thinly sliced cucumber (thin texture).

5. Thinly sliced carrots & cucumbers.

6. Combined vinegar, sugar & salt in a bowl. Stir until sugar & salt dissolved.
7. Placed the sliced thin carrots, cucumbers & onions into the bowl. Mix all the ingredients until it is well combined. (picture shown as above)
8. Leave it for 30 minutes.
9. Thereafter, squeeze out excess water with cloth / bare hand.
10. Place it in a plate & add additional 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Mixed around.
11. Keep in the fridge.
12. Ta da --- The vegetable pickles is ready to be served.

Vegetable Pickle - ready to be served.

Note: You can add the chillies too. The recipe which Eva shows is something I can grabbed from my fridge.

Phew!! At last, my first recipe in my own blog. It is not easy to do 2 things in a time, i.e. preparing the dish & snapping the process/steps photo. Poor Eva cos everything need to do by herself. Heheh..

Enjoy the dish! Stay tuned.

Xmas Gathering @ 25/12/09

Jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle all the way..!!

Merry Xmas (even though passed few days already) & Happy New Year!!

As usual on every year, we will have our gathering or date. Its depends how actually you spent this occasion with someone you loved, parents, family or friends. This year, I had a great gathering. Everything falls on the same date but have to reject for those invitation came late. Sorry, everyone. Hope you all won't mind about it. Heheh... ^_^

I spent my 2009 Xmas with Hui Fen & Pei Yeeng. My old buddies from college time. Hey, it's been approx. 8 years we know each other. I have another 2 friends but they are MIA. Hehe... MIA people, please don't angry with the stmt stated earlier. Hehehe...

We went to KLCC and Golden Triangle area. Our lunch was at Delicious Cafe (located at Jln. Pinang).

Located right at Marc Residence.

Thanks to Hui Fen who has suggested this lovely place. It is nice, clean, superb, quiet place which I like.

Okay, it doesn't means anything la... Just curious. Heheh... It's quite fun to participate in gift ex-change activity.

A visit to KL Tower @ 19/12/09

You will be surprised if I told you that it was my first time to visit KL Tower after it has been built long time ago.

Thanks to Chrys who invited us for her very special occasion, i.e. her wedding dinner.

I was quite anxious as it was my first time to visit KL Tower. Nevertheless, we arrived there by 6 p.m. In order for us to get to the wedding dinner floor, we need to line up for lift. The lift was controlled by the KL Tower staff. Without the access card, you can't press any of the lift buttons & the lift goes up & down automatically. Why do I said so? Just bcos I experienced it on that day. After the cocktails session (prior to the dinner banquet), Chrys suggested us to go to the observation deck to have a look. It was located at 1st floor. Then, we get into the lift & stuck in the lift. The lift goes ups & downs & makes me a little bit dizzy. Luckily the staff noticed that the lift was going up & don & they SAVED us... Phew!! When you are in the lift, you felt like sitting in the airplane cos of the air impact in our ear. Hehe..

We went there & guess what? The view was not so good compared to 3rd floor where the banquet held. We did tried the binocular... Speaking of the binocular, I was dizzy after looking thru it. Everything was zoom in bigger size... (@_@)""

Below are the photos taken on this event.

Gift: Chocolate & Mini KL Tower drinking bottle. They printed the wedding photo on it. So beautiful.

Here is a little information which I extracted from Wikipedia.
(source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KL_Tower)

The Kuala Lumpur Tower (officially known as Menara Kuala Lumpur, referred later as KL Tower) is a tall tower located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Its construction was finished in 1994. It is used for communication purposes and features an antenna that reaches 421m (1,381 ft.) which currently makes its fifth tallest freestanding tower in the world. The roof of the pod is at 335m (1,099 ft.). The rest of the tower below has a stairwell and an elevator to reach the upper area, which also contains a revolving restaurant, providing diners a beautiful view of the city.

It is worth to visit in such a nice occasion.! Thanks, Chrys. ^_*

Happy New Year 2010!

Happy New Year 2010!

It is a new beginning of the year. Looking back at the Year 2009, I have been occupied myself with lots of stuffs. There are ups & downs which happened around me. Last but not least, I missed to post my blog for approximately a month plus. Okay la... Was a bit busy & tension.. LOL.

Last year, few of my friends were asking me how actually I managed my time. Errrrrr.... Frankly speaking, is I do not know. Btw, please don't ask me why & how. ^_^

RESOLUTION??? Every year, people asked what is your resolutions of the year??? Hmmmm....... It's kinda hard to answer cos I have a lot in my mind. If I were to list it here, it will be a long long long list...................... So, ain't going to write it here. Just prioritize it.

My study was so far so good. It's kinda really hard to pick up when you have abandoned it for long time. I have abandoned it for approx. 6 years & right now, I continue to further my study in degree. Well, it is definitely a diversified one coz from Business Information Systems to Business Management. Hmmm... it is still Business in front right? Hahahah... Current wish list: Pass all subject with flying colours.

What about my blog? Hmmm.... last year was thinking how should I handle it. Should I separate it into 2 blogs where I create my handmade cards & jewelries. Another one will be my personal blog? To manage 2 blogs... Argghh...!! In order to save my time & blogging, I just put everything in one blog, i.e. Beads Garden Fashion. Well, to simplify, this blog will consists of what is happening around me, what am i doing so far, my handmade jewelries and cards, etc etc etc.. Of coz the blog URL will not be changed cos I am too lazy to change it. I like my blog name very much! ^_^

That's all for my granny story. Phew!! My long entry of the day. Stay tuned.

P/s: Going to bake some cookies.. Heheh..

Kolam Making Competition @ The Weld - 10 Oct 2009

Hi Everyone...

How's life going on? Well, as for me.... busy busy busy... Heheh...

Today @ 10/10/09, I participated in Kolam Making Competition organized by The Weld. The team should have 3 persons in a team & the design theme is ONE MALAYSIA.

It is real hard for us to come out what we should do for it. A lot of ideas came into our mind & tried to put it in together. Despite of it, I sketched the design several times..... & finally the design should looks like this...

So, do you think it came out as expected? Nay, not really. Cos drawing 1D is definitely easy with pen /pencil. When it comes to KOLAM, it is really hard. WHY?? Cos all of us never did it before. Our first time to do so... Heheh.....

Rumi: Filling the hibiscus with colored rice (red + orange).

We started the design with our Malaysia national flower = Hibiscus. It's kinda hard.

Material used: Corn flour, colored rice, biji sago (green), white rice & shiny dust powder.

Well, we did not follow exactly the design on the sketch.

Eva: Drawing the ketupat outline.

Both of us posing in front of the camera man.

So, are you wondering where is my another team mate? Haha... Actually I forget to ask some snap the photo. Sorry ya, Lissa. ^_^

It is only 2 hours for us to complete the KOLAM. Our team starts with me, later Rumi joined & lastly Lissa. Of course, a lot of people asking where is my team mate. Nevertheless, everyone came. Phew!! Thanks to Rumi & Lissa who came even tough her family / herself is not feeling well. Being a mom is not easy as I can say.

Our results of KOLAM design is as below picture.

(L: Front view. | R: Side view.)

Mr. Jega from India Cultural Art Association (hopefully I spell the name & association correctly) guided us a little bit of the Kolam art. He is real good teacher / artisan. A lot of advice, comment, critic (sorry if I say so - it's true from my heart) from him..

Pros:-
1. Contemporary arts.
2. Naive arts.
3. One type of art which can be found in India. (confirmed by my team mate as well)

Cons:-
1. Made a mistake on the purple dust on the white rice.
2. If view from the above, the dust will looks like a spot.
3. My team member a little bit late.. (who cares. they are not feeling well but at last they came.)

Findings:-
1. TRUE (the spot facts). But, we don't give it a damn on it cos first time & trial. For us, it still looks good.

Real team plays hard work to do it. YEAH!!

The judges came to look at every Kolam being made by 9 teams. We have to explain our theme as well. It is not easy cos is just like presentation. Hahaha..

As a result, what we gained? Consolation prize award - a hamper & complimentary cash vouchers from The Weld.

(L: Our prize. | R: Us with our Kolam & hamper.)

Oh, we looked around for VVIP for photography session.

Us with Beverly.

Us with one of the judges.

Us with Mr. Jega. Personally, he is a great advisor. Real artisan. Learn a lot from him today.

Thereafter, we went to Deli-France for our lunch. Real hungry.... We opened up the hamper & see what is inside the envelope.

What's inside?

Hohoho.... Cash vouchers from LINEN & Things, Automatter Facial Express, Pristine Dry Cleaning & Laundry & O'Briens.

My super delicious lunch after all the hard work.

My treats from my team mate. Thank you.

It was tiring day for 3 of us. Last but not least, a good team work & experience. Learn the cultural of Malaysia. 1 Malaysia, Truly Asia.

The view of the area of all the KOLAM view.....

Stay tuned ya!
